Meet the Animal Agentz

Each Dr Jones’ Animal Agent teaches different stress-management and coping skills.

Children do not understand ‘how’ to relax on demand, but through playing with the Animal Agentz, they learn such techniques and can repeat them in stressful situations. Your child will remember the actions and behaviours of Bubbles the fish, Yo-Yo the Cat and the other Animal Agentz and use them when they need to remain calm.

As one mum said  “If you say to a child relax it means nothing to them but if you let your child play with the Animal Agentz “fish” (breathing skills) and then say to the child what did the fish do?
Then I found him acting out the fish and becoming relaxed”

Dr Prickles
Animal Agentz
A friendly, calming and informative Porcupine, Dr Prickles will act as your child’s guide whilst they are innersed in the world of Animal Agentz. In an engaging and non-threatening manner, he introduces the often daunting medical procedures a child might be about to undergo and plays out potentially stressful situations. He acts as teacher and mentor to your child.

Spike and Rose

Your child will take on the role of either Spike or Rose, just as they would act out the role of another character (or ‘avatar’) in any children’s computer game.

Rory

Rory the Lion will teach your child to say “I can do this!” in situations where they were convinced they couldn’t. He will teach your child to be confident, positive and brave, characteristics that will not only help your child cope with upsetting medical situations but will help them face the challenges of life generally.

You may like to print the Animal Agentz list to remind yourself of their names and their special skills, and to help your child to recall the most effective technique to help them at any particular time.

Suggestions
We suggest you print off each Animal Agentz skills page and use this to work out where your child has been and which skill they like the most. Remind your child about their favourite character and the skills they have learnt when they are next faced with an issue that troubles them.

Make sure your child plays with the Animal Agentz repeatedly in advance of an event which will cause them distress or anxiety.

What others have said:

At one school a group of children made up stories about the Animal Agentz going on adventures.  This group of children remembered almost all of the different skills. A teacher afterwards commentated that the most "naughty and disruptive boy" was the most cooperative in the group which came as a great surprise to her.

One mum has the Cheiko the monkey skills list next to her child's bed and this helps the child sleep.

A child can have no issue and just play with the Animal Agentz as one mum said "Animal Agentz is like CBT for you (her child) and me–its how the coping skills your children learn now can help them for a lifetime"
